Michael Jackson to make rare public appearance

LONDON (AP) — Michael Jackson will make a rare public appearance at the World Music Awards in London next month, organizers announced Sunday.
The reclusive king of pop will receive a Diamond Award, given to artists who sell more than 100 million albums, at the industry ceremony on Nov. 15.

"We are thrilled to be bringing the World Music Awards to London, the music capital of the world," said founder Melissa Corken.

"The presence of Michael Jackson is very exciting for us," she added,

Jackson has made few public appearances since being acquitted of child-molestation charges in June 2005. He left the United States soon after, and has spent time in Bahrain and Ireland.

Jackson last performed in Britain as part of the HIStory tour in 1997. In 2001, he addressed the Oxford Union student debating society.

The World Music Awards were held in Monaco for 15 years before moving to the United States in 2004 and 2005. This year's event at London's Earls Court Arena is due to be hosted by Lindsay Lohan, with performances from Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Katie Melua and Andrea Bocelli.

The annual showbiz awards select winners based on the strength of their worldwide record sales,

Previous recipients include Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, Britney Spears, Bon Jovi and Kanye West.

Was was bringt?

Den Diamond Award bekommen Künstler, die in ihrer Karriere über 100 Mio Alben verkauft haben. Den haben vor Michael schon andere erhalten. Ist also nicht einer dieser Preise, die extra für ihn erfunden wurden.

also der preis naja denke nich das der jetzt sooo doll is! aber gut man wird sehen

das der alte mann dann aus seinem "exil" rauskommt hat was sicherlich aber ob er dann auch wirklich kommt is doch wieder so ne sache tippe eher wieder auf ne videobotschaft

Wenn er sogar in so ne japanische Gammelshow gegangen ist kommt er dort sicherlich auch hin! Wäre jedenfalls nicht schlecht wenn man an einem Comeback arbeitet!

Ich bin auch der Meinung, dass Preise im Allgemeinen nichts besonderes sind. Aber soll Michael jetzt anfangen und sagen: Nein, ich will den Award nicht. Es ist zwar ein Preis, den man für kommerzielle Verdienste bekommt und nicht für künstlerische. Aber es ist trotzdem schön, wenn Michael ihn auch bekommt.

Für die Öffentlich sind alle Preise gleich. Ob er nun für sein nächstes Album einen Grammy in irgendeiner Kategorie gewinnt oder jetzt den Diamond Award bei den World Music Awards bekommt, ist für die meisten kein Unterschied.

Was hat es John Legend gebracht, dass er dieses Jahr drei Grammys für sein erstes Album gewonnen hat? In Deutschland hat es ihm gar nichts gebracht.

Was wäre denn aus deiner Sicht ein Preis, der mal wieder was besonderes wäre? Der Friedensnobelpreis? Denn aus musikalischer Sicht hat Michael ja schon alle Preise gewonnen, die man gewinnen kann. Da kann er ja gar keinen mehr drauf setzen.

TO: All Fan Club Presidents and Contacts

I am pleased to announce that Mr. Jackson will be receiving the
Diamond Award from the World Music Awards on Friday,
November 15, 2006, 7:30PM, Earl's Court 1, Kensington, London,
England.

As this is the 25th Anniversary of "Thriller" and, Mr. Jackson's
worldwide sales have to date exceeded over 750,000,000 million
units, Mr. Jackson is being recognized for his phenomenal, record-
breaking achievements. He is certainly the undisputed "King of Pop."

Mr. Jackson would like to see as many of his fans as can attend
the event. Because of this, we have made special arrangements
with the organizers to make special provisions from Mr. Jackson's
fans.

The first 200 fans will be admitted free on a first come, first serve
basis. After 200 tickets have been disbursed, all other tickets will
be sold at a special discounted rate and fans will be given a special
code to use when purchasing tickets.

I will be forwarding to you the information as to how to obtain
tickets within the next several days.

While I do not have the email addresses for all fan clubs, I am
relying on each of you to pass this information on.
