If you drove trough gary, Indiana, at night black in the '60s, when the city's industrial engine was still pumping with vigor, you'd have seen flames rising up from its factories, a flery symbol of economic vitality and ample employment opportunties (and its pollution, too). Gary was one of the many tough, Midwestern towns whose rust belt industries provided stabilizy and shelter to its residents and sturdy home-grown products for the nation. For black families, just entering the first full decade of post-segregation American citzenship Gary was a place of pride ( its first black Mayor was elected in 1967) and political activism ( a national black convention was held there in '72). Of course the downside of thisblack self-assertion was that Gary, like so many similar cities, was experiencing white flight, an erosion of its tax base and a spreading lawlessnee that would devastate its sense of community.

Oh vielen dank!!! Ja es nist ne Menge. Aber es ist ja auch Stückchenweise geschrieben ^^
Also dan mal der nächste Teil:
It wasout of Gary. and the kind of rough, but honorable working class life that now seems lost to history, that Michael Joseph Jackson emerged. His father worked as a crane operator at U.S. Steel, though Joe's heart was in music. He'd plaed guitar in a band called the Falcons who'd never made it out of Gary, but that instrument played a prominent part in family sing-a-longs and music lessons. Katherine at times worked part-time at Sears and other local retailers, but her main focus was raising nine kids in their three-bedroom house at 825 Jackson Streeet (which later saved the city fathers the necessity of renaming it). Joe was gregarious, stern and forceful. Katherine was alm, quiet and deepl spiritual. Michael was born on August 2, 1958. While that was the tail end of the American population explosion called the baby boom, it still made Michael old enough in the '60s to be impacted by the creative African-American flowering known as "soul"

Some of the great showmen ever to spin, slide, shimmy, shake and shine on an American stage starred in the culturally segregated chitlin' circiut of the '50s and '6s. James Brown. Wilson pickett. The Temptations. Otis Redding. Jackie Wilson. Dynamic anddramatic, powerful and passionate, the world of soul singers that young Michael was born into created a standart of showmansship and live vocal dexterity unmatched before then, and given 21st century technology and taste, likely never to be equalled again.

Das ist lang XD:
Most black children of the era had some contact with these stars via matinee shows at local theaters, the radio and the odd appearance on American Bandstand or some local teen dance show. Young Michael, who family members recall displaying amazing vocal ability as early as two years old, was around backstage areas wehn barely out of diapers. By 165 a family act, featuring Jemaine on bass and vocals, along with little brothers Marlon and Michael was already performing at local talent shows. In fact, throughout the late '60s the Jacksons clan spent weekends piled into station wagond to perform in shows in gary, then up in chicago and around the Midwest and as far east as Harlem's Apollo Theater where they won over the legendar tough crowds.
